Denise Luxford

Denise caught the bug for performing at a very early age, particularly musical theatre.  She loved the tap and ballet classes which she attended while still very young along with being a part of the drama department at school.  For some years, whilst bringing up her children, she had to take time off from her favourite amateur dramatics hobby but in 2000 and 2001 she took courses in acting and musical theatre which made her realise she had to get back to performing and become part of a group.  Since 2002 she has been a member of BasOp taking part in various productions, mainly as part of the ensemble.  She was absolutely thrilled when in 2013 she got the wonderful part of Miss Hannigan, in BasOp’s sell out production of ‘Annie’ at the Towngate Theatre.  Now to be playing the part of Golde in ‘Fiddler on the Roof ’ is another dream come true.  Being the mother of five children in the show is just ironic; in real life Denise who lives in Westcliff and runs her own hairdressing salon from there, is also the mother of five children so that experience alone will come in very handy.  Denise couldn’t be more grateful to the show’s director Victoria Purton and the musical director Patrick Tucker for the opportunity and guidance in playing this great part in this wonderful musical.  Plus of course to the fantastic team at BasOp for the help and encouragement which makes the whole experience a truly great one.

Debbie Trower

Debbie joined BasOp in 1994 to be part of the cast of ‘Oliver!’. She then played the principal role of Lauren in ‘Oklahoma’ in 1995. Debbie has enjoyed being in both the chorus and other roles during her time with BasOp. She also palyed the role of Hope Harcourt in ‘Anything Goes’ in 2001.
Debbie is looking forward to playing the part of Yente in BasOps ‘Fiddle on the Roof’ 2017

Charlotte Cavedasca

Charlotte is 20 years old and lives in Basildon, she has been performing since the age of four in shows throughout the London area and Essex. Not only has she sung on a number of occasions in BasOp’s annual ‘Alternative’ Concerts but has actually performed at Disney Land Paris. Charlotte studied performing arts as one of her ‘A’ levels at Brentwood Ursuline College and has performed with amateur groups across Essex.  Her roles include Nancy in ‘Oliver’ and Sandra In ‘Made in Dagenham’

Bob Sheridan

Bob joined BasOp in January 2016 to be part of the ensemble as a crapshooter in ‘Guys and Dolls’. Before BasOp Bob was part of Benfleet Operatic Society from 2013 after he was persuaded by a friend. He was apprehensive as he hadn’t sung with a group of people for a very long time but he found that he really enjoined the experience. He took part in two concerts and three productions, these included, The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado and his personal favourite, Guys and Dolls!
After really enjoying playing one of the gamblers in Guys and Dolls with Benfleet Operatic in 2015 Bob wanted to take part in another production, he then saw that BasOp were putting on Guys and Dolls in 2016 at The Palace Theatre, Westcliff. He has found that the members are a great bunch of people and very friendly and he has been able to fulfil a dream and perform in a real theatre for the first time. Since joining BasOp Bob has also taken part in the eighties concerts, this included one number dressed as woman (another first) and the Christmas concerts and he has loved every minute! Bob will tell you he has found that being part of BasOp is good for his mind, remembering lines, fitness levels with movement about the stage, he made some really good friend and had lots of fun! What more does a seventy year old want?.

Dave Reeve

Dave joined BASOP back in 1993, his father heard him singing whilst laying under the car fixing a hole in the exhaust pipe, with a baked bean tin and three jubilee clips, (other clips are available) and said to Dave ” you will be interested in doing something I do on a tuesday evening.” “I’ll pick you up at seven thirty” were his parting words. Dave’s wife was very proud as she watched his father drag him kicking and screaming to the car saying “you WILL like it”.
Well its now quite a few years on and Dave is still performing with BasOp. The first character role was playing an 18 year old apprentice called Noah Claypole in “Oliver” when he was 36! He still has those boyish looks. He has played a number of roles over the years; the Pirate king for BasOp’s 70th anniversary in 2000, Moonface Martin from ‘Anything Goes’, Brannigan and Big Jule from ‘Guys and Dolls’, and a number of others.  Dave has taken up ensemble roles including a pirate, a policeman, a doctor, a tramp, a beggar, a triple character role in ‘under milk wood’ playing Mr Waldo, Mr Pugh & the faithful Organ Morgan and even a little Shakespere with the role of Dogberry in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’.  Dave has taken on some professional work for 20th Century, ITV, BBC and Sky 1.  He has played supporting cast in 9 movies including ‘V’ for Vendetta, the nasty soldier who hits Steven Fry and the aide to Albert Finney in Amazing Grace.  Dave has also appeared in 15 Bollywood movies, played a chief inspector of police in a trilogy, co-lead in the film ‘Short’ made for the international short film awards in Hollywood where he played a cockney Jewish father from East London, and a supporting lead in the film 7 ‘Welcome to London’ he was the announcer.  After taking a break from BasOp Dave is glad to be back amongst some old friends and loves working with the new and young members. The enthusiasm in the members has remained the same, even if some of the bodies are not so keen!

Ian Benson

Ian first set foot on a stage nearly 10 years ago but has been a show-off for thirty more than that! He entered the Am Dram world as an enthusiastic novice, his enthusiasm has not dimmed but he now has one or two more skills…apart from dancing!
He has appeared in shows with LTC and SODS in the Southend area, performing in a variety of roles including Bauman in Mack and Mabel, Lazar Wolf in Fiddler on the Roof & Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls.
Ian is a Teacher and has shared the benefit of his own stupidity with many students in this area of Essex. He spends his spare time playing ukulele & participating in quiz nights… usually not at the same time.
He was overjoyed to play Nathan Detroit on joining BasOp in 2015 for the production of ‘Guys and Dolls’ seeing him taking his first leading role. It was an ambition held for many years and he found it hard to believe he was given the chance. Ian not only loved the role but also being a member of an amazing cast and joining the Society, he has recently joined the committee and hopes to help progress BasOp.
